What do you do when you have a net worth of $500 million and love your dog? Well, you name your $85M luxury yacht after her.

Palm Beach philanthropist and corporate trustee James Berwind, along with his partner Kevin Clark, usually spend their summers in New England living on their mega yacht. Named Scout after their dog, it has been spotted in the waters around Mackinac Island this summer. Pictures and videos have been posted on social media showing the floating masterpiece making its way around the island. It has even been spotted near Port Huron.

The incredible 209-ft yacht Scout was custom built for the couple back in 2019 and is making quite a splash as it makes it's way around the Great Lakes. The standout yacht, that can accommodates up to 10 guests and has five staterooms, is truly a dream that became reality.

It All Started with an Idea

Believe it or not, Scout was born out of a sketch on a napkin.

“We started with a sketch on a napkin before interviewing any designers,” said Berwind and Clark. “Our wish list was to have a capable, comfortable explorer to travel the world, and we got a long-range ice-classed yacht with ample crew and guest areas, advanced systems for fuel efficiency, telecommunications and responsible waste management.”

What it lead to was a floating piece or architecture and design that features a main saloon that includes an LCD ceiling that mirrors the outside scenes, an intimate C-shaped fire pit that’s ideal for gathering, and nautically inspired staterooms. The private owner’s apartment, that is accessed by a library studded with nautical-themed artifacts, comes complete with an observation lounge and a hidden bar area. There is also a sundeck with a Jacuzzi and a swim-up bar at the back of the ship.

So keep your eyes peeled for a little, or should we say big, piece of luxury cruising about in northern Michigan this summer.
