Heroic Michigan Police Officer Saves Drowning Boy in Hotel Pool
A Michigan police officer has achieved hero status after rescuing a child who nearly drowned in a hotel pool outside Detroit.
Say it with me: "Not all heroes wear capes." That expression gets thrown around rather casually, but in this case it really does apply.
Video Shows Officer Reviving Drowning Boy
Bystanders summoned police to the TownPlace Suites Hotel in Warren on Saturday (3/1) after the 12-year-old boy was pulled from the hotel's pool. We've embedded the audio from that 911 call.
According to Detroit's WXYZ-TV, Officer Brooklier of the Warren Police Department was already at the hotel on another call.
The bodycam video shows Brooklier sprinting down the hall and coming to the boy's aid.
Brooklier performed CPR, administering chest compressions for two minutes. He was able to revive the boy just as members of the Warren Fire Department arrived.
"It's such a short amount of time, so you don't get to think what you're going to do. It's just something you react to," Brooklier tells the TV station.
Child Expected to Make a Full Recovery
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He was later released and is expected to make a full recovery.
Brooklier, whose actions were truly heroic, says it was coordinated effort and is grateful that the boy will be OK.
"We're just grateful that he is alive and is going to continue on with life," Brooklier said.
The incident highlights the importance of knowing CPR and staying calm in potentially life-threatening situations.
