Auburn Wins First National Title Since 1957
It was a wild finish - five crazy minutes of football with the National Championship on the line. In the end, it was a 19 yard field goal as time expired to give Auburn its first national title in 54 years. Auburn's Michael Dyer never heard any whistle, so he just kept on running. A nearby, would-be tackler, thought he had him down, but
could only watch as Dyer took off on a once-in-a-lifetime run in the final minutes of the championship game. The run set up the game-winning field goal that gave #1 Auburn as 22-19 win over #2 Oregon.
