If you've spent an inordinate amount of time sitting in front of your computer or your Xbox, has it ever occurred to you that you might have a problem? According to the American Psychiatric Association, this could be a sign of a serious addiction.

It can be such a serious problem that the APA has proposed that “Internet Use Disorder” be officially listed among other recognized mental disorders and studied further.

According to Dr. Han Doug-hyun of the Chung-Ang University Hospital in Seoul, there are five warning signs of gaming or internet addiction. They are:

  • Disrupted sleep patterns
  • Loss of job or unwillingness to attend school
  • An increasing need for a bigger fix
  • Withdrawal, including irritability or anxiety
  • Cravings

Before you find yourself collapsing after four straight days of Xbox, you might consider getting some relief and take a break from the gaming for awhile.
