Amazon plans to open a new fulfillment facility in Shelby Township and bring about 1,000 jobs to Southeast Michigan.

The one million square foot facility is expected to open in 2018.

"Michigan has been a great place to do business for Amazon and we look forward to adding a new fulfillment center to better serve our customers in the region," Amazon VP of North American Operations Sanjay Shah said in a press release.

"Amazon's announcement to open another new fulfillment center in Michigan once again shows the company's commitment to our state and the great people who live here," Gov. Rick Snyder tells WXYZ. "As we continue to see an increasing convergence between the tech and manufacturing sectors, Amazon's continued investment here proves the value of Michigan's diverse, hard-working talent pool and reformed business climate."
