183 Candles on the Cake: Happy Birthday Michigan
Today's a big day the Mitten State! Back in 1837 on this date, the state we live, work, and love in was granted statehood becoming the 26th state to join the union.
Michigander's consider themselves lucky for so many reasons. Michigan happens to be the only state that consist of two peninsulas. A little two for one deal that we love. We have over 11,000 inland lakes larger than 5 acres which really adds truth to the saying "the Great Lakes state". Michigan actually has the longest freshwater shoreline in the U.S. and more shoreline than any other state in the lower 48 .
Each season brings a slew of festivals and events all over the state like the Cherry Festival and the notorious Cheeseburger Festival in Caseville. With our incredible and unique destinations from Frankenmuth to Petosky, the U.P. to Holland, and the downtown vibe of Detroit, Michigan has something for every season and everyone.
This year the state we love was named one of the best places to travel in 2020, according to Travel + Leisure. The list mentions Mackinaw Island and the beautiful hotels as well as the breathtaking Upper Peninsula, and also adds the state now being a "must do" for cruises on the lakes.
Whether it's beaches or ski slopes, concerts or Tigers, east coast or west, there's is much to enjoy and be proud of in the state we live. Happy Birthday Michigan!
