Tiny Treasure: Michigan’s Smallest State Park Is Just 22 Acres
Consider it "Fun Size"! When it comes to most state parks it may be tiny, but it's big on beauty. At just 22 acres in size, this Alger County park is the smallest state park in Michigan.
Currently, there are 103 state parks and recreation areas throughout Michigan, with new parks in Saginaw and Flint underway. Although most span hundreds of acres, this hidden gem is by far the smallest but worth a visit.

Known as Wagner Falls Scenic Site, the park is located off Highway 94 at the junction of M-28 in Munising, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. The park is home to the beautiful Wagner Falls. The area offers visitors a 1/2-mile trail that weaves through the Hiawatha National Forest leading to the picturesque waterfall that then makes its way to Lake Superior via the Anna River.
So how does the "bite-size" park measure up to Michigan's largest? That honor goes to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Located in the western Upper Peninsula Covering the park covers an area of 60,000 acres and ranks as Michigan's largest. The park has over 35,000 acres of old-growth forest and a vast Lake Superior shoreline making it one of the state's most popular parks.
Wagner Falls Scenic Site may not be as vast as most state parks, but the beauty, undisturbed forest, and tranquil flowing waters make it definitely one to add to your Pure Michigan Bucket List.
