Mitten Pizza in Gun Lake got an unexpected electric bill so large, they might have to shut down. The restaurant is planning to hold a fundraiser so they can try to stay in business.

Mitten Pizza, located on M-179 in Middleville, shared the news of the giant bill to Facebook on Monday:

"Mitten Pizza customers, and friends! We have some...news.

Unfortunately Mitten Pizza LLC was sent a “corrected” electric bill in the amount of $19,795.75. A mistake from our electric company was found out and know they are charging us 12 months back (the longest amount of time they can legally back charge us due to their own error)

This is not a bill that Mitten Pizza LLC can afford to pay, so it is with great sadness that we are announcing that we WILL close the doors on November 1st and cease operations completely if we are unable to negotiate this bill down to a number that isn’t laughable. We are a small owner operator pizza place, not a huge chain that has millions in accounts and lawyers paid to handle these circumstances."

Fox 17 reports that in the hopes of keeping the doors open, Mitten Pizza is holding a  fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday October 11th and Saturday October 12th with pizza, raffles, giveaways and more.

We will also be out at Mitten Pizza noon to 1pm Saturday, October 5th. Stop in to pick up your FREE tickets to the Downtown Grand Rapids' New Year's Eve Ball Drop with Pop Evil and Puddle of Mudd. Tickets are first come, first served, limit four per person.

If you're looking for another way to help, a customer has also set up a GofundMe page to support the local pizza joint.
