Michigan Couple Wins $2M on Wedding Anniversary

Imagine your best anniversary ever. Now picture it coming with a $2 million surprise. That’s exactly what happened for one lucky Oakland County couple, who turned their wedding celebration into a life-changing payday thanks to a Michigan Lottery “Diamonds & Gold” scratch-off ticket.

A Wedding Anniversary to Remember

The lucky player told the Michigan Lottery that she and her husband both enjoy playing the Lottery's scratch-off instant games, especially the Diamonds & Gold game.

What’s more romantic than winning money together, right? The 44-year-old woman said it was pure luck that she and her husband scratched off the winning ticket on their special day.

How the Winning Ticket Was Discovered

“We scratched this ticket off together on our wedding anniversary, and my husband noticed the $2 million prize first,” she said. “He thought something wasn’t right, so we took it to the store to scan it.”

When the couple scanned the ticket, the machine gave a message telling them to file a claim at a Michigan Lottery office. Still in disbelief, they asked a friend to double-check it using the Michigan Lottery’s mobile app. That’s when the good news finally sank in.

“I started shaking and was in total shock when $2 million came up on the screen,” she said. “It was so exciting and the best surprise on our anniversary!”

What They Plan to Do With the Money

The Oakland County couple plans to use their winnings to buy a home, invest, and set aside money for their kids’ college funds.
