Awesome Strategy: Playing Family Birthdays Pays Off For Michigan Woman
Sometimes you just let the computer pick your numbers and sometimes you use family members' birthdays as your lucky lottery numbers. Using family birthdays was definitely the way to go for a Michigan woman who won $219,638 playing the Michigan Lottery's Fantasy 5 Jackpot.
Lori Sikora won the Fantasy Five jackpot, matching the five numbers in the December 26 drawing. She bought her winning ticket at the Meijer on Utica Road in Fraser.
Longtime Strategy Finally Pays Off
Sikor shared her winning strategy with the Michigan Lottery, noting that she's been playing the Fantasy Five for years.
"I always select family member’s birthdays as my lucky numbers," she said. "When I saw the winning numbers, I knew pretty quickly that I had won. I went running to tell my husband and when I got to him, he thought something was wrong."
She goes on to say that winning over $219,000 is a wonderful feeling and she's looking forward to helping some of her family members.
Big Plans for Her Lottery Winnings
Sikora says she plans to use her winnings to remodel her bathroom, host a baby shower for her daughter, and take a trip to Las Vegas.
Using family members' birthdays is strategy that many people use when picking lottery numbers, and we're glad to see it pay off for Lori.
Can You Stay Anonymous if You Win a Big Prize From the Michigan Lottery?
Michigan Lottery players who win playing 'State Only' games like scratch-off tickets or Lotto 47 can stay anonymous if they win big prizes.
However, games like Powerball and MegaMillions are multi-state games. Michigan residents who win large jackpots playing those games cannot technically stay anonymous. But there is a loophole that allows Michigan players to form a 'Lottery Club' with a paid representative as the only player in the club who is required to come forward.
We shared more on that strategy here.
