Volunteers Are Cleaning Up Michigan Parks During Govt Shutdown
The shutdown started at midnight on December 22nd and is entering its 15th day.
Sleeping Bear Dunes has been having a rough winter - the lack of snow has been an ongoing problem, as it's a popular spot for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. And now, the government shutdown is adding to that list of problems.
There are no employees at the Visitor Center or Administrative Offices. The parking lots are not being plowed, which are leaving some park visitors stuck.
However, volunteers are going above and beyond the call of duty. They normally do some trail maintenance, but they are also currently maintaining the vault toilets around the park.
THANK YOU to all the volunteers who are taking the initiative to help out.
