Upcoming ‘Click It Or Ticket’ To Enforce Heavy Fines For Violators
It's common knowledge that one should always be wearing a seat belt while driving, yet somehow we still have people who love to live dangerously. That works for me as long as those people realize they could be heavily penalized if caught, especially during Michigan police's "Click It Or Ticket" campaign beginning Monday through June 2nd. The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) recently launched a new safety campaign that includes television and radio ads, billboards, social media posts, and banners displayed at more than 600 police and public safety offices across Michigan, according to WDIV.
To get an idea of how serious this issue still is, last Memorial Day, 19 people died in traffic crashes over the holiday period, which is almost double the number from this time period from 2017. Seat belt use is the most effective way to stay alive in a crash. Wearing one can reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash by 45 percent. The fine and associated costs for getting caught not wearing a seat belt is $65.
