A group of 13 semi-truck drivers showed support and lined the east and westbound lanes of I-696 near Detroit this morning (4/24) as a man contemplated suicide.

The drivers positioned their semis under the Coolidge Rd. overpass in order to shorten the distance the man would fall if he decided to jump.

Fortunately, the man did not jump and walked off the overpass. He was taken by police to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

The incident began around 1 am today when police coordinated with truck drivers who were in the area. Traffic on I-696 in both directions returned to normal at approximately 4 am.

If you or someone you know is feeling distressed, call the suicide prevention hotline. Help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 800-273-8255.
