It seems like a night at the local movie theater is becoming a thing of the past. Sure, a full selection of streaming services that bring the movies right into our own homes may be partly to blame, but let's face it, a night out at the movies isn't cheap.

According to Net Credit, the number of tickets sold in 2022 when restrictions were lifted was half the average sold across the previous 20 years. Although there has been an uptick in returning to the cinema, it can be a financial hit.

In a new study, Net Credit searched out the best bang for your buck when heading to the movies. They based the results on findings from a target night saying;

"Researchers at NetCredit found the average price of an adult ticket for the films Napoleon and Wish on a Saturday night at the ten largest cinemas (by number of screens) in every state and the 100 biggest U.S. cities. We ranked these cities and states by average price and then compared these prices to the average local wage to further rank each location by affordability."

Michiganders will be happy to know, it won't cost you an arm and a leg to catch the latest releases. True, prices aren't with they used to be with the cost of a movie ticket doubling what it was 25 years ago, but Michigan seems to run quite a bit lower than most states with the average price being $9.99 per ticket for the state. To compare, New York is the most expensive with an average cost of $15.83 a ticket.

What Michigan City Has the Cheapest Movie Ticket in America?

Although Michigan falls on the lower side for the average ticket price, one Michigan city took the top spot for the cheapest movie ticket in America. Based on the Net Credit study, Sterling Heights, Michigan is the place to go for a bargain on your movie night. The average movie ticket there will cost you a cool $8.92.
