There’s Going to be a Blue Moon on Halloween, Because 2020
It's being called the "moon event of the year."
Maaaaan, Halloween is gonna be a doozy this year. It falls on a Saturday, on Daylight Saving Time (so we get an extra hour of spooky goodness), and there's going to be a full moon. Needless to say, this is theee event that Halloween enthusiasts have dreamt of, and 2020 is theee year.
Full moons are separated by 29 days so, usually, they only happen once per month. However, once in a blue moon (ha ha - see what we did there?), you'll get two in the same month. It happens approximately every 2.5 years. And this October, it's going to happen again.
Contrary to popular belief, though, the moon won't actually be blue; it's only called that because it will be the second full moon in the same month.
This is the first time since 1944 that a full moon will be visible across all time zones, so it's kind of a big deal. It's also the last time that we'll see a full moon on Halloween until 2039.
In case you're wondering what makes a moon appear blue in pictures (other than creative photo filters), changes in the atmosphere can cause this phenomenon, like ash from a volcanic eruption. Just like people, though, the moon is always the same color.
If you're dressed up as a werewolf for Halloween this year, this will be the perfect opportunity for you to step outside and howl at the full moon. It's very possible that you won't attract ANY attention because 2020 has been NUTS.
