The Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup Martini
I'm not a fan of martinis, but I could really learn to love a grilled cheese and tomato one. It's comfort food in the form of a refreshing drink. A bartender created this drink and he works at a place called Clive's in British Columbia. He starts by soaking grilled cheese in a dark rum and then adds fresh tomato, basil, and salt.
I may try making this sometime, and you can too. First, make a buttery sourdough grilled cheese sandwich. Then cut into slices and place in a Mason jar, top with Mt. Gay rum and let it sit overnight. Strain this mixture and freeze for a few hours. Strain once more through a cheesecloth or coffee filter and bottle.
For the cocktail, muddle four slightly roasted cherry tomatoes with basil and salt. Add two ounces of your cheese-washed rum and another 1/2 ounce of Lillet Blanc, along with a dash of celery bitters. Dry stir, then stir with ice. Then double strain your cocktail, garnish with basil or tomato section and finish with a dash of Glenfiddich.
Sounds pretty good doesn't it!
