They came here to start over after Hurricane Harvey, and a local group has reached out with open arms.

The McLaurin family was wading through chest-high water in their flooded Houston home - everything was waterlogged, very little could be salvaged - when they realized that they needed to start over. They came up to Michigan to live with their relatives.

A local group called The Good Samaritan Network in Swartz Creek has reached out to them to help - they're collecting donations for them, as well as helping them find employment in the area.

The network was founded a few years back by Keith and Bonnie O'Neal, after they were able to help a man with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma return to his home, which had structural problems. They've also helped with disasters such as the Joplin tornado.
