Two Major Genesee County Roads Closed for Railroad Repairs: Here’s When and Where
If you do much driving around Genesee County, get ready for a couple of detours coming your way. Two different railroad crossing projects have shut down some well-traveled roads. If this sounds familiar, you’re not wrong.
Burton’s Bristol Road Closing Again for Railroad Work
Let’s start in the City of Burton, where Bristol Road between Dort Highway and Center Road is closed once again for emergency railroad repairs.
UPDATE 11/4/25 2pm: The project on Bristol Road in Burton has been completed and traffic can move freely over the tracks.
If that stretch rings a bell, it’s because the same spot had an emergency closure back in March when crews had to jump on a quick fix.

This time, the Burton Department of Public Works says the project is planned and should last today (October 27, 2025) through the 31st. Drivers can use Atherton or Maple roads to get around.
Swartz Creek Project Also Starts October 27
Meanwhile, over in Swartz Creek, the Genesee County Road Commission has shut down Miller Road between Dye and Elms roads as of today (October 27, 2025).
UPDATE 11/5/25 7am: The project on Miller Road in Swartz Creek is no where near completion as of now. It will still be several days before this project is completed.
Crews will be working on the crossing near GM’s massive Customer Care and Aftersales warehouse.

That one’s expected to wrap up by November 8, and a detour will guide you along Dye, Lennon, and Elms roads.

So whether you’re heading east toward Burton or west through Swartz Creek, be prepared for some extra travel time. Both projects should help smooth things out in the long run. And considering how bumpy some of those crossings have been lately, that’s probably worth a few days of inconvenience.
