At 4:16 this afternoon Summer officially starts, and one of my favorite things about summertime is amusement rides.  My wife is all about Cedar Point and roller coasters, but doesn't like upside down rides such as my favorite, the Loop-O-Planes.  My oldest son is five-years-old now, and I think it's about time he experience this thrill ride!

My grandfather, Nannu in Maltese, was an engineer for General Motors and loved machines and mechanics.  I was five when he took me on the Loop-O-Planes, my first carnival ride.  I was hooked!

Ever since I was a kid, I have looked for this ride, also known as The Hammer and The Salt-N-Pepper Shakers, with no luck.  Recently I stumbled across the Skerbeck Brothers Shows' website, and low-and-behold... there it was!  It turns out that they are going to be set up at the Lions Club Jubilee in Lake Orion this weekend.

I think it would be a fitting tribute to Nannu to take my oldest, Ben, on the coolest carnival ride I have ever been on.  What are some of your favorite rides?
