Sterling Heights Police Help Man Hook Up TV After Traffic Stop [VIDEO]
Police Officers in Sterling Heights helped a motorist who was in distress, but it had nothing to do with his vehicle. After stopping the 79-year old man for speeding, officers learned that he had been struggling to track down the cables necessary to hook up a new TV.
The man, identified only as David by WJBK-TV, told officer Kevin Coates that he had purchased a new 50 in television for his family, but had no idea what he needed to do to get it working.
"Everything's going wrong," David tells the officer through tears. "My wife's real sick and my son's mentally ill. I really try to drive right and I bought a television today because I want to make the wife happy but I can't get it hooked up."
He went on to say that he'd been to different Meijer stores trying to buy cables to hook it up but hadn't had any luck. Officer Coates was able to identify that David was replacing an old tube-type television and offered to help the man hook it up.
After making another police call, Coates, Officer Remi Verougstraete, and his new recruit, Officer Jeremy Jakushevich made a visit to the man's house. The three men succeeded in helping David hook up his new TV and they were able to help him learn how to navigate the remote and on-screen guide.
Sterling Heights Police Chief Dale Dwojakowski tells WJBK that he's proud of his officers for going above and beyond the line of duty to help a resident.
