State Shuts Down 14 Illegal Gambling Operations, Two in Genesee County
Michigan has put the kibosh on 14 illegal gambling operations including two in Genesee County and three in Lapeer County.
Redemption games are legal in Michigan. This means that only games that involve some sort of skill on the player's part are allowed and the payoff must be some sort of prize or gift card.
Games of chance are not considered legal and in 2019 investigators determined that games of chance, such as casino-style slot machines were being offered. They then issued cease and desist orders for those businesses.
A press release provided to Mlive states that each of the businesses chose to close rather than face criminal prosecution.
The two Genesee County businesses are Burton Redemption Center on Davison Road, and Monte Carlo Café on State Road in Davison.
In Lapeer County, illegal operations have been shuttered at Fortunes Skilled Gaming Lounge on Cedar St. in Imlay City, Atlantis Internet Cafe on East St. in Lapeer and Jackpot Island Cafe on Main St. in Lapeer.
