Sign The Petition – Do NOT Use Flint Veterans Millage $$ for Golf Tournament
I think it's a gross misuse of money, and if you agree, you can sign a petition.
The Genesee County Board of Commissioners voted on Monday to use $50,000 from the veteran's millage to sponsor the upcoming Ally Challenge PGA tournament coming to Warwick Hills.
The millage was passed in 2012, and Commissioner member Drew Shapiro voted against the measure. He's also started a petition to reverse the decision, calling it an "abuse of public trust."
The Board of Commissioner's Chairman Mark Young says that, in return, veterans will receive free admission to the tournament. He says that they are trying to reach out to younger veterans.
However, local vets aren't happy with this use of the money, saying that they need the money more than they need to see a golf tournament.
The $50,000 accounts for about 5.6% of the total amount of the millage.
