Another event has been canceled for this year in Michigan.

Some sad news for Shiawassee County was announced Monday night (5/19/20.) After much consideration, the Shiawassee County Fair Board of Directors has voted to cancel the fair scheduled for this year. The board of directors is comprised of parents, 4-H leaders, and volunteers who were all saddened by the decision.

Their main concern is the health and safety of the community and fairgoers. Some of the factors that went into the decision were recommendations from their insurance providers and the Shiawassee County Health Department, contract requirements, timelines, and more. The Shiawassee County Fair was scheduled to take place from August 9th through August 15th of this year.

This is just another sad piece of information that we have to face nowadays. However, I totally understand the decision of the board of directors on this one. Having been apart of countless events over the last 15+ years in radio, I know first hand the sheer amount of work that goes into putting huge events on. How you feel about a particular situation is not necessarily how someone else feels about it (much like the current world today.) Getting everyone on the same page and keeping them happy is a feat in itself, even in non-pandemic times.

The future of events is so unclear for the remainder of the year, especially in Michigan. All we can do is hope that the world returns to normal as soon as possible. We all miss concerts and hanging out with friends. We will get through this together.
