Dobie Gray, best known for the 1973 Smash "Drift Away" passed away Tuesday.

Gray was born in Texas, and grew up in a family of sharecroppers, and discovered gospel music through his grandfather, who was a Baptist minister. He moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s to seek his fortune.
