Michigan’s Wealth Elite: Forbes 400 Reveals the State’s Richest People
With the cost of just about everything hitting record highs, many are feeling the pinch in their wallets when it comes to some expenses. For a select few, though, those unaffordable expenses seem like pocket change. So what does it take to become one of the richest people in Michigan? Making the Forbes 400 list.
The popular business magazine, owned by Integrated Whale Media Investments and the Forbes family, has released its annual Forbes 400 ranking the wealthiest of America's superrich residents. For 2023, Forbes notes, "The wealthiest people in the U.S. are as wealthy as ever—and the cutoff to make the list now stands at a record-tying $2.9 billion".
According to the new article, the net worths were calculated using stock prices from September 8, 2023, and the entire "Class of 2023" is worth around a staggering $4.5 trillion. "Half the gains came from rebounding technology stocks. Eight tech moguls added $10 billion or more to their fortunes".Wowza!
Topping the list is a guy whom the world has a love/hate relationship with. We're talking about Tesla guru, and owner of X (formerly known as Twitter), Elon Musk. At just 52 years old, Musk has a net worth of $251 billion.
Who Are the Richest People in Michigan?
According to the new Forbes 400 list, the wealthiest Michigander is Rocket Mortgage/ Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert. No stranger to the list, Gilbert landed in 34th place with a net worth of $21.3 billion. If that number impresses you, check this out...his worth is up from last year when he clocked in at $17.3 billion.
Michigan definitely made a showing on this year's list, with 8 of the 400 wealthiest being from the Great Lakes State. The richest individuals in Michigan per Forbes are as follows
