I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing when this article came across my desk. But yea this is real, now Biden's administration claims that it will be providing "Smoke Kits" to vulnerable communities to help advance racial equity. But will it though? You have to excuse me, I'm not the smartest kid in class but I don't understand how sending out smoke kits a.k.a crack pipes will help out a community.

The crazy part is that this isn't a new idea! Seattle tried doing this back in 2015 apparently with terrible results. Instead of providing a cleaner alternative to using dirty or tainted needles, Seattle just ended up making more drug addicts (Duh). This also makes me really question everything that we have in place to help people recover from addictions. I understand trying to do anything to keep people off drugs. I have people in my family that suffer from addiction, and I would definitely want them to do things a bit safer as crazy as that sounds. I also feel like this is kinda positively reinforcing their bad behavior. "oh no buddy don't smoke crack outta that pipe, smoke out of this cleaner one!" Do you see what I mean? It just feels dumb.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency (SAMHSA) has allocated roughly $30 million for a Harm Reduction Program Grant, which includes funding for syringe exchange programs, the opioid reversal drug naloxone, test kits to detect fentanyl and “safe smoking kits/supplies,” among other more traditional measures, like HIV testing and safer sex resources.

No details on if these kits will also be connected to a rehab program or not. At its base, it's just an exchange program to help addicts get cleaner crack pipes. This just feels super dumb, and a complete waste of time...
