NFL Player Credited With Thwarting Port Huron School Shooting
New England Patriots Wide Receiver Julian Edelman is being credited with possibly thwarting a school shooting in Port Huron. The NFL star saw the threat from a 14-year old on a comment on his Instagram page.
One of his followers eyed the message and direct messaged Edelman, whose assistant contacted authorities.
The message read, "I'm going to shoot my school up watch the news."
Capt. Joe Platzer of the Port Huron Police Department says Boston police contacted his department after tracing the comment to a student at Port Huron Central Middle School.
"When we got that information we immediately started looking into it, our officers were able to locate a 14-year-old male.”
The boy has been charged with False Report of a Threat of Terrorism, according to WXYZ. He's being held at a juvenile detention center.
Edelman says he is happy he could play a role in helping to avoid a tragedy.
