Newly Married Couple Serves Reception Food at Women’s Shelter [VIDEO]
Melanie and Tyler Tapajna spent their first few hours as man and wife serving food to women and children at a Cleveland-area women's shelter. The food was originally intended to feed the couple's wedding guests, but their reception had to be canceled due to COVID-19.
“We paid for it already so we're like we might as well donate it," the new Mrs. Tapajna told Cleveland TV station WKYC.
Tyler and Melanie -- still dressed in tuxedo and wedding gown -- put on hairnets and masks to serve up a hot meal at Laura's House, which is a subsidiary of The City Mission. CEO Rich Trickel was delighted by the couple's generosity.
“They've could've done a hundred other things you know and yet they're choosing to do this, a real act of giving and compassion on a day that is the most important day of their life,” Trickel said. “I think it communicates to the women that there are people who care for them.”
Trickel says he thinks this is the first time newlyweds have donated their reception food to the organization.
Melanie says the couple likes to support local charities and is happy with the way things turned out on her big day.
“This is actually, probably the best outcome of it all,” she said.
