MSP Warns of New Scam Targeting Gas Customers in Michigan
Michigan State Police are issuing a warning about scammers attempting to obtain gas customers' financial information.
Door-to-Door Scam
Authorities say the bad actors are going door-to-door, posing as gas company employees. They ask to take a look at customers' latest bills, promising to work to obtain a lower rate. They then snap a photo of the bill and later use the information in an attempt to gain access to customers' banking information.

Mark Giannunzio is the Public Information Officer for the Michigan State Police 8th District. He tells TV-6 that two customers in Northern Michigan have been targeted but says all Michigan gas customers should stay vigilant and be on the lookout.
“Do not give them your bill, do not give them your personal identification or your driver’s license anything that would identify you to them, don’t give them any of that information," Giannunzio says. "If they are legit you can call into that company and verify that information, but right now this is kind of a disturbing trend that people are actually going door to door and scamming some of our residents.”
