Delish decided to look at those grocery stores in America with price tags that sparkle. You know, those stores where forking out $20 for a bottle of water is commonplace and opening your wallet wide is the norm. They rounded the list down to the 5 most overpriced grocery stores in the county, and one of the most popular and well-known happens to have locations right here in Michigan.

'Most Overpriced' Grocery Store in Country Has 8 Locations in Michigan

It's name many know well, and one some would say they'd love to see in their town even with the big buck sticker prices. Whole Foods Market is known for selling products free from hydrogenated fats and artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives is a subsidiary of Amazon and beckons the question, "Does healthy mean expensive?". Yeah, pretty much.

"There’s a reason why Whole Foods is often referred to as “Whole Paycheck.” Since being founded in 1980, Whole Foods has earned a reputation for being one of the most overpriced grocery stores in the country. It’s faced scandal after scandal, from selling a bottle of water with three stalks of asparagus for $6, to their former CEO blaming America’s obesity crisis on “making poor choices” and “ignorance.”, Delish said. 

According to reports, Whole Foods prices have been 10%-20% more than its competitors including Michigan's popular Kroger. It should be noted that these percentages have gone down a bit, believe it or not,  in the past years according to Delish.

"In 2017, it was purchased by Amazon, which led to price decreases, but Whole Foods still remains financially inaccessible to many shoppers. And now, with the rising cost of living, the store’s exclusivity is even more blatant", they said.
