Mom Buys 1,500 Pairs of Shoes at Closing Payless to Donate to Students [VIDEO]
As Payless Shoes closes its remaining US stores, including its Flint locations, a mom with a big heart cleared out her local store's inventory in order to donate the shoes to school kids.
Carrie Jernigan says it started as a joke.
"As I was checking out I just said 'How much for the rest of the shoes in the store?' almost joking and I could see the clerk's, her face, her wheels start to turn and she finished checking me out," the Arkansas woman tells KFMS. "She said 'can I have your number?'"
Jernigan notes that her daughter had asked about buying a pair of shoes for a classmate whose shoes were too small.
"She has the biggest heart, and she said 'There is a boy in my class that loves Avengers, and his shoes are too small, could you buy him these?' and I was like 'of course,'" Jernigan said.
The family plans to distribute the shoes before classes begin later this month.
