Michigan’s Oldest Candy Store Serving Sweet Treats Over 100 Years
Michigan is famous for amazing fudge shops -- especially Mackinaw Island, even Frankenmuth. Did you know there's a candy store that's nearly 120 years old?
Michigan's Oldest Candy Store
Pull out your hand-y "Michigan Map"... (that's your actual hand, in case it wasn't obvious). It's located right where your thumb knuckle and base of your index finger meet. St Laurent Brothers, or The Nut House as some call it, has been in business since 1904 in Downtown Bay City, right on the Saginaw River 1101 N Water St, Bay City, MI 48708. It's not far from the Liberty Bridge. They've been around longer than M&Ms (1940s).
Homemade confections and other treats
When you walk in the door, the fresh scent of homemade candies and a giant variety of nuts fills the air. They have everything from fancy hand-dipped chocolates, covered pretzels, homemade suckers and other treats-on-a-stick, three-foot chocolate bunnies around Easter and homemade peanut butter. They even have a hand-dipped ice cream counter.

Candy Store for sale in Bay City, MI
The iconic candy shop is actually for sale. The long-time owners listed the businesses in the beginning of 2023. It's still on the market -- asking price is around $1.7 million. It's an enormous space at almost 22,000 square feet. Plus, it's on the Saginaw River -- prime real estate.
Part-owner, Steve Frye, told MLive they'll remain open and operating as usual until the business is sold. Selfishly, I hope it remains the same forever because so many people have fond memories of walking in those doors and new customers discover St. Laurent Brothers every single day.
