The People Have Spoken. Here Are Michigan’s Favorite Tubing Spots

Who doesn't love a relaxing day floating down a river?

When summertime rolls around in the great state of Michigan, it is time to unpack the river tubes. I would be willing to be that the majority of Michiganders out there have taken a trip down a river or two in their lifetime. Whether it be in a tube, canoe, or kayak, not much beats a relaxing trip down the river with friends and family. So last week I reached out on the Banana 101.5 Facebook page to see where everyone likes to go. The answers are below and did not disappoint.

One of the biggest problems with tubing down the river though is picking the right place to go. I feel the two most common rivers in Michigan for a tubing trip are the Rifle River and the Au Sable River. The Rifle is 60.3 miles long and the Au Sable is 138 miles long. With almost 200 miles of water between them, finding the right drop-in and exit points can really make or break the trip.

There are so many things to consider when planning a trip. How long do you want to be on the water? Where are you staying? Do you want to trip to end at the campground you are staying at? These are just a few of the things that go into making the perfect trip and the answers are different for everyone.

The "perfect trip" really depends on who you are. For example, Tony and I go on annual tubing trips each year, however, the destinations and type of camping we do are completely different. While we both float almost the exact same stretch of the Au Sable, the trips are different. Tony prefers to stay at a campground that has cabins while my campground is completely rustic. His group has even stopped for a break at my campsite before while on the way to theirs.

The biggest thing is...do your research if you are just getting into planning a trip because everyone you ask will tell you that theirs is the best.
