Michigan UFO Sightings Rank Top 10 — But This One Wasn’t Alien

Michigan’s UFO History

Since records began in 1936, Michiganders have reported 3,794 UFO sightings. That’s more than a decade before the famous 1947 crash in Roswell, New Mexico, which truly fueled speculation about UFOs and what they could be.

Roswell’s Role in UFO Lore

On July 8, 1947, the Roswell Daily Record ran a story claiming the U.S. Army Air Forces had recovered a “flying disc” that crashed near a ranch in New Mexico. The military quickly retracted the story, saying it was simply a weather balloon.

So far this year, there have already been 36 sightings in the Great Lakes State — and it’s still only August. On July 29, a witness in Metro Detroit reported several reflective objects hovering in broad daylight for roughly 10 minutes before suddenly dispersing.

The Kalamazoo Hexagon

Recently, residents in the Kalamazoo area reported seeing something strange in the sky that looked like a large flying hexagon. Could it be another Michigan UFO sighting? According to local officials, that’s a hard no.

The “hexagon” was actually suspended from a helicopter — something many witnesses apparently didn’t notice. Whether you’re driving with a limited view of the sky or standing on the ground with trees and buildings in the way, a giant hexagon overhead could still be unsettling.
