Show Me The Money: New Tariff Ruling Could Mean Refunds for Michigan Families
If it feels like everything costs more lately, you’re not imagining it. Groceries are up, gas isn’t exactly cheap, and even the little things seem to hit harder than they used to. So when something comes along that could actually put money back in people’s pockets here in Michigan, it’s worth paying attention to. That’s exactly what’s happening right now after Gretchen Whitmer signed a new executive order tied to tariffs that were originally put in place under Donald Trump.

Whitmer says Michiganders have been footing that bill long enough, and now it might be time to get some of that money back.
What Whitmer’s Order Means for Michigan
The executive order is basically step one. It’s going to have state departments take a hard look at just how much those tariffs impacted Michigan businesses and families. From there, it lays the groundwork for companies and employees to actually seek refunds.

Now, before you get too excited, the process is still being figured out at the federal level. But the important part is this, the U.S. Court of International Trade has already said refunds need to happen.
