Holly Area Schools Joins Growing List of Districts Closing Amid Concerns
Holly Area Schools are closed for the rest of the week after school officials received an outpouring of concern for the safety of students. The district is joining a growing list of Michigan schools making the decision in the wake of the Oxford High School shooting.
Parents received a letter from Scott Roper, Superintendent of Holly Area Schools, and Jerry Narsh, Chief of Police for the Village of Holly. The letter stated the decision was made “Out of an abundance of caution and due to the overwhelming outpouring of concern from our students, staff, and families".
The letter addresses numerous reports of threats on various social media platforms that “someone is going to shoot up Holly Schools”. Holly Police Department responded to reports on their Facebook page letting parents and students know that all threats and concerns were being investigated.
The letter states,
"The police department has interviewed a number of students who have shared these posts. The investigation has produced no source for the original threat, but instead several second and third-hand reports from individuals sharing what they heard others say. At this point, our police department has deemed the threat not credible due to a lack of evidence."
Police interviewed students who shared the social media post. Police said they have not found a source for the original threat. Anyone with information should contact Holly police at 248-858-4911.
