Michigan Pizza Shop Makes Delivery to Terminally Ill Man 225 Miles Away [VIDEO]
Julie and Rich Morgan moved away from the Battle Creek area about 20 years ago but never forgot how good the pizza is at Steve's Pizza is.
The couple recently planned a trip from their home in Indianapolis back to Michigan and one of their planned stops was Steve's. But before their trip materialized, Rich was diagnosed with end-stage cancer and moved to hospice.
Julie's father contacted the pizza shop simply hoping that they could send Rich a card. But Dalton Shaffer, an 18-year-old manager at the store decided that wasn't enough. The call came just as he was wrapping up his shift around 11 pm.
Shaffer then made the 225-mile trip, delivering the pepperoni and mushroom pizza to the Morgans around 2:30 am.
"The family came up, gave me a hug and everything like that, and it was cool," Shaffer told WXMI. "The expression on their faces and everything was really cool."
Julie expressed her gratitude with a heartfelt thank you on Facebook:
“Dalton brought our family so much joy—and the best pizza in the world—at a really difficult time,” she wrote. “While ‘thank you’ hardly seems adequate—from the bottom of my heart, thank you, Dalton from Steve's Pizza in Battle Creek, MI for making your epic middle of the night pizza delivery!”
