Michigan Man With a Double-Lung Transplant Survives COVID-19 – The Good News
Talk about having the odds stacked against him!
Twenty years ago, Mount Pleasant resident Paul DeWyse was diagnosed with a disorder where his liver doesn't make enough proteins to protect his lungs. The only cure for this is a lung transplant; he ended up waiting two decades to get one.
Since the transplant in 2018, his doctors have told him that he must IMMEDIATELY seek medical attention if he feels like he has the flu so, back in March, he went in. He didn't have the flu - he had coronavirus, and he was one of the first patients diagnosed in Michigan.
It took him three weeks for his body to fight off the virus but he has fully recovered...and his doctors believe that the lung transplant is what saved him.
Now THAT is some good news!
