Los Angeles, St. Louis, the southern border... but Flint? Michigan has quietly become one of the heaviest federal immigration footprints in the country. ICE agents in this state have jumped nearly 70 percent over the past decade. Border Patrol agents are up too.

Mlive reports that there are now nearly 500 ICE agents stationed in Michigan, and more than 2,200 Customs and Border Patrol agents. New detention centers are opening, including a 1,800 bed facility in Baldwin and a warehouse in Romulus. Not to mention expanded offices in Detroit and Grand Rapids.

Why This Feels Different for Flint

This is not a red state versus blue state conversation. This is not partisan. It is simply about geography. A city that has already been through the wringer. A place where trust in institutions has been tested before.
