Michigan Family Spreading Autism Awareness in a Colorful Way

The couple has 5-year-old twins, one of whom is on the autism spectrum.

Manar Kobeissi and Kamal Abdallah of Dearborn are parents to twins Miral and Haydar. They quickly started to notice a difference between the two and took Haydar to the doctor when he was 7-months-old.

At first, the doctors said that he was "fine," pointing out that boys mature slower than girls. Later on, he was diagnosed with autism.

As the parent of a child on the spectrum, I can absolutely relate to how Manar was feeling - she said that she felt as though her world had been turned upside down. But, as most parents of ASD kids say, it's not a disease - these kids are just "different."

She also wants to let other parents know that they're not alone, so they decorated their yard for Autism Awareness Month, and to show that they are proud of their son, just the way he is.

Is somebody cutting onions in here? *sniffle* Can she come decorate MY yard?!
