Woman Names Her Baby After the Royal Oak Restaurant Where She Gave Birth
This is not a scene from a TV show or a movie - But the story of a Michigan couple who had their baby at a restaurant in Royal Oak sure tells like one.
Oh, and did we mention that the woman gave birth at the table where she was dining?
What are the Details?
In an interview with Today, Alyse Sparkman explains that she and her husband Sean thought they were having their baby on April 27 when she started having contractions. The couple headed to the hospital, but it turned out to be a false alarm.
When the hospital staff sent them on their way, they decided to grab a bite to eat at Lily's Seafood Grill and Brewery in Royal Oak.
Here's where it really starts to feel like a sitcom: Once their food arrived, Alysa felt her water break and sent her hubby to get the car. But, as you may have guessed, Sean didn't make it back in time.
It only took two minutes, but by the time Sean returned, she had already given birth right there at the table in the restaurant.
Fortunately, two retired nurses also dining at Lily's were able to untangle the baby's umbilical cord from being wrapped around her neck. Other diners in the restaurant cheered the baby's arrival.
Baby's Name Pays Homage to Royal Oak Restaurant
Immediately after the birth, Mom and baby went off to the hospital. As a tip of the hat to where she was born, the parents named their daughter Penelope Lily Sparkman. The middle name 'Lily' replaced the couple's original choice, Danielle.
Congrats to the new family. Check out the video below.
We're just glad they weren't dining at the Krusty Krab.
