A substitute teaching group has shut down, leaving thousands of people without jobs, and over 100 schools without substitute teachers. Professional Educational Services Group employed between 1,500 and 2,000 people. They announced Monday they were stopping all operations immediately and everyone employed by them would be terminated effective Tuesday. The employees that were terminated from PESG are now being encouraged to sign up to teach through individual districts.

Lapeer Community Schools are just one of the hundreds of schools that used PESG for substitute teachers. They posted about the closing on their Facebook page.

In a letter sent out to staff, PESG says they believe the closing will be permanent. The company has two offices they once used as a headquarters, one in Burton and one in Caledonia, both of those are closed as of Monday. The entire office staff at each location was also terminated. There was a phone number listed for employees to reach someone to ask any questions about work or pay.
