There's an old saying that "The difference between a jogger and a runner is a race entry form." Scott Downard finished first in the Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday. Problem was, Downard wasn't entered to run the race. He put on the race number of a friend who had entered but was unable to compete. Kolin Styles, who finished second with a time of 2 hours, 40 minutes and 54 seconds was declared the winner. He was more than 3 minutes behind Downard. A race official told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Downard was understanding about the disqualification and said that he'd be back to compete next year.
Over 9,000 people took part in the Cowtown races. Give Mr. Downard credit. He admitted his error and didn't throw a fit like a lot of athletes would have under the circumstances.
