Hanging baskets seem to fall front and center as the "go to" Mother's Day gift. Breakfast in bed usually finds its spot among the top ways to show Mom some love as well, but if you're looking to change it up or do something a bit different this year, here are a few suggestions that won't break the bank.

Wilderness Trails Zoo in Birch Run is offering a discount to all the Moms. They can enjoy a day strolling through the 56 acres of natural surroundings to see exotic animals such as primates, zebras, lions, reptiles, and parrots. There's even a petting area and a few new baby animals that just arrived to see. Wilderness Trails Zoo is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

You could also treat Mom to a special day at the beautiful Applewood Estate. The home is the historic estate of automotive pioneer Charles Stewart Mott, a founding partner of General Motors. Mom can stroll through the house, tour the gardens, and enjoy croquet on the lawn. There will also be a carnation give-away in the Perennial Garden. The best part is admission is absolutely FREE.

If you're going to be doing some IKEA shopping with mom, why not swing by the Canton Tim Horton's get her a free “Mom-sized” iced coffee? The 52 oz. caffeine jolt is easy to score for free just by replying "Mom-sized" when placing your order. Unfortunately, Canton is the only participating Michigan location.

Many local eateries are offering special Mother's Day brunches, dinners, and buffets as well, so check with your favorite for reservations and times.

No matter what you decide to give your mom for her special day, your love and appreciation is always a great choice.
