Lapeer Teens Who Planned School Shooting Get Light Sentences
Three teens who conspired to plan a Columbine-like shooting at Zemmer Middle School and Lapeer High School have been sentenced to five years of probation.
Asa Candela, Dylan DeAngelis, and Gunnar Rice created a video that mimicked the Columbine shooters' basement tapes in 1999.
A judge, acting on the recommendation of the juvenile detention center employees who said the teens pose no real threat to society, handed down the sentence this morning. Each will be under house arrest, have GPS tethers, and be banned from using social media, drugs, and alcohol.
Had the teens been sentenced under adult guidelines, they would've served two years in a state prison followed by parole.
