Jeopardy’s Current Champ is From Michigan and He Has Really Great Manners
UPDATE: Paul Clauson is now a two-day Jeopardy champion. He has racked up $36,300 and moves on to face two more contestants tonight.
Jeopardy's current champion is a really smart guy from the Detroit area. He earned over $15,000 on his first day on the show—and he's someone your mom would love because he's just so darn polite.
A Big Winner on His First Jeopardy Appearance
Paul Clauson is a tax analyst from Madison Heights. On Friday's show (11/15), Paul amassed an impressive $15,201 during his first appearance on the iconic game show. Going into the show's Final Jeopardy round, Clauson could not be touched as he had more than twice as much money as his opponents.
Although none of the contestants gave the correct response in Final Jeopardy on Friday, Clauson wagered small - just $399 - and emerged as the show's winner.
Michigan Jeopardy Champ is Incredibly Polite
I didn't count, but if I had to guess, I'd say that Clauson said "please" roughly half the time when asking host Ken Jennings for the next clue. During the interview portion of the show, he shared a touching anecdote about watching the game show as a kid with his grandparents.
Paul also demonstrated humility after his win, gesturing gracefully to each of his opponents. I love seeing that since many contestants fail to acknowledge the other players after being crowned the winner.
Paul now moves on to face Jonelle Lonergan from Boston and Amy Fleenor from Cleveland on Monday's show.

The Clue, courtesy of TheJeopardyFan: A 1947 article read, its "wings were not clipped by the Senate fishermen & ghost hunters after all."
Although Paul's response was funny and on the right track, "An airplane" was not specific enough. The correct response was "What is the Spruce Goose? (Hughes H-4 Hercules)
