Driving through Flint Township there isn't a whole lot to see on the west side of Linden Road driving north beyond Miller. After Halo Burger, the strip malls on that side have sparse businesses occupying space.

What's caught my attention the last few times driving through there has been a structure being built on the north side of Miller Road just west of the intersection at Linden Road. For a while, I thought Sonic (at Austin's Parkway and I-75) might be building there, since Chick-Fil-A is taking its spot in the next few months. Turns out, I was wrong.

What's being built in Flint Township off Miller & Linden Roads?

A new fitness center is being erected on the north side of Miller Road, just beyond the Halo Burger sign. This is located across from the strip mall on the opposite corner (that has Jersey Mike's and Smoothie King). It's simply called "The Gym." They offer a full gym, personal training and even massage according to their website.

There's part of me that wishes the old Ponderosa (then Taboon) in front of Genesee Valley Center would have been torn down and re-used to keep traffic flowing toward the mall. Don't get me wrong, it's great to have someone investing in the area with a fitness center. My thought is -- if the mall doesn't thrive, a lot of the Flint Township Business District suffers. Take a look at the commercial/office property or plaza at Linden and Bristol Roads as an example of the struggle.

Wishing the newcomers at The Gym all the best for success.
