This totally sucks. Detroit’s own Sponge was robbed while on tour in Maryland, with guitars and other gear stolen from the band’s trailer.

The band is currently on the road with Candlebox on the Can't Quit You Tour.

I was so bummed this morning when I saw the Facebook post from guitarist Andy Patalan. The gear was taken out of the band's trailer while it was parked in a Holiday Inn parking lot in College Park, Maryland, sometime between last night and this morning.

Sponge played last night at The Filmore Silver Spring. The band shared the following message today, along with pictures of the stolen guitars and gear.

I am hoping, and I am sure the band is as well, that there is security footage available that can help authorities track down the thief and/or thieves responsible for this.

Sponge still has seven scheduled dates on this tour, including Buffalo tomorrow night. The tour wraps up on October 30th, 2026, in New Jersey.

Please take a moment to share this article, the band’s original Facebook post, or both. The more people who see this, the better. Let’s continue to spread the word until the person or persons responsible are caught and the gear is hopefully found and returned to Sponge.
