Study Says Michigan Drivers Are Best in the U.S.
Turns out Michigan drivers aren't as bad as some people say. According to a new LendingTree study, we’re officially ranked the best drivers in the entire country. Seriously...the best.
This probably comes as a shock, since Michigan insurance rates make it seem like we drive with our eyes closed.
The study shows Michigan has just 20.9 incidents per 1,000 drivers, which includes crashes, DUIs, and speeding. That’s the lowest rate in the country.

Experts say good training, strict laws, and better roads (really?) are helping us out. And honestly, driving here is basically boot camp. We learn to handle downtown chaos, rural highways, icy backroads, massive potholes, and construction that never ends. If you can survive winter driving in Michigan, the rest of the country is easy.
On the other end, North Dakota ranked last with 64 incidents per 1,000 drivers, thanks to high DUI and speeding numbers. New Jersey and Utah rounded out the bottom three.

Sure, we’re stuck behind slow pokes and winter panic drivers every year, but apparently, we’re still the safest in the country. We might pay insane insurance rates, but hey…we actually know how to drive. I’m sure not everyone will agree, but argue with the stats, not me.
