Popular Flint News Anchor Announces Departure From ABC-12
After more than 20 years in Genesee County, a Flint newscaster will soon be signing off.
ABC 12 news anchor Matt Franklin announced his departure live on the air on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025.
Franklin made it clear that leaving the station was his choice. There has been quite a bit of drama surrounding ABC 12 after its parent company Allen Media Group, announced plans to replace local meteorologists with pre-recorded by regional meteorologists.
Non-local weather personnel did not go over well with ABC 12 viewers or advertisers. As of January 2025, reports indicate Allen Media Group was rethinking that decision.
Franklin shared with viewers that his decision to leave is bittersweet, however, he is happy to see what is ahead. He went on to say he is forever grateful for every single moment over the past 20 years.
As you can imagine, after working at ABC 12 for that long, his announcement was quite emotional. You can watch the announcement in the video below.
Matt Franklin's last day on air at ABC 12 is Thursday, March 27th, 2025. As you will see and hear in the video below, Angie Hendershot mentioned that Franklin will still be in the community.
It sounds as if we will be hearing more on that soon, stay tuned.
We certainly wish Matt Franklin all the best.
